Japan is the theme of the fundraiser, which recalls the institute’s involvement in recovery efforts following a devastating tsunami in 2011. Bascom Palmer sent its “Vision Van”, which it describes as a “40-foot mobile eye clinic”, to Sendai province.
The tables at the gala were decorated with tall vases filled with Japanese cherry blooms. The ballroom decor was pink and white with floating tealights lighting each place setting.
Trump visited Palm Beach three times before his inauguration. He took the time to visit charity events at his extravagant estate.

Bascom Palmer chairman Dr. Eduardo Alfonso surveyed the ballroom, where 300 people attended the evening gala. He praised the event’s success and called it “a party for long-time supporters”.
He was not sure if Bascom Palmer would host its event at Mar-a-Lago next.
Alfonso stated that Bascom Palmer held events at The Breakers in Palm Beach and at Sailfish Marina previously. He said that the gala “has been moved around.” “We’re malleable.”
Alfonso said that it was up to the donors of the institute where the gala will be held. Alfonso stated, “My job it to save sight.”
